Gaila W. Edel

Gaila W. Edel, 73, of Du Quoin, passed away at 12:24 A.M., Thursday, November 4, 2004 at the Skilled Care Unit of Pinckneyville Community Hospital in Pinckneyville.
Gaila had been the pianist for the First Christian Church for thirty-three years.  She had also given piano lessons since she was sixteen years old, to over two thousand students.  She had also taught marimba lessons.  She had played for Du Quoin and Tamaroa School Music Departments for many years.  She was part of the Peerless Quartet who traveled throughout the Midwest and had a radio show on WCIL from the 1940's to the 1950's.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Du Quoin and had attended Murray State University.
She was born March 18, 1931 at West Frankfort, IL, the daughter of Elmer and Dora (Lampley) McClintock.
She married Robert L. Edel on April 21, 1951 at West Frankfort, IL and he preceded her in death on April 17, 1998.
She is survived by one daughter - Kim Tecklenburg and husband Jeff of Du Quoin, one son - Steve Edel of Palm Harbor, FL, and two grandchildren - Michele Tecklenburg and Alex Tecklenburg, both of Du Quoin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one brother - Glenn McClintock.
Funeral services were at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, November 6, 2004 at the First Baptist Church in Du Quoin with Dr. Bob Dickerson and Dr. John Lewis officiating.
Friends called from 5 to 8 P.M., Friday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin and from 9 A.M. until the time of service at the church on Saturday.
Interment was in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery at Du Quoin.
